Hi Shannon,

It looks like everything worked correctly this time! No need to resend the information. I have everything saved and will begin working on this ASAP! For the first few days I will research the locations and contact you by Saturday at Noon, with some information on best state to go to for your budget and travel needs with a list of activities and some prices. From there we can work together to plan your detailed itinerary.

Perfect! I think we are really shooting for Montana as our destination spot:) We are willing to adjust our budget by $200-300 to accomodate if necessary. Also, we have that $400.00 flight voucher with Delta, so that helps with cost too!

Thanks again, looking forward to your planning:)

Hello Shannon,

I hope you are well and I apologize for the delay. I was out of town this weekend with really bad Wifi. However, below is a preliminary plan with activities and prices. If you like this plan then I will research airbnb and other accomodation options near these sites/activities, search for reasonable car rental options, research nightlife and restaurants, and begin to load your activities into the itinerary. One thing I did discover is that skiing and other winter activities will not begin during the time you plan to travel to Montana (mid October to early November). Winter activites usually begin mid December such as skiing, snow mobiling, snowshoeing etc. and go until early April. This seemed to be the standard at most of the ski resorts I called the past few days. Are there other dates you are able to travel? If not there are a ton of other activities you and your husband can do. For now I incorporated as many activities as possible, that you mentioned in your messages, for a 6 to 7 day trip. Also I need to know where you are traveling from to research flights. I apologize if I overlooked this information in your previous messages. Depending on where you are flying from, I think this trip will be possible while sticking to your budget! Let me know what you think!

**7.5 hours of driving time with overnight stays

  • Day 1
    • Arrive in the afternoon
    • Lodging Options: Whitefish Mountain Resort (starts at $89/night) or if you would like to be adventurous and enjoy an evening under the stars, try a night in a tipi $99 link

  • Day 2

      • Afternoon Skiing Lesson at Whitefish Mountain Resort ($79 per person for 2-half day lessons. Includes rentals, lessons, and lifts)
  • Day 3
    • Morning Ski Lesson
    • Afternoon Horseback Riding (starts at $50 per person)
    • Enjoy nearby nightlife
  • Day 4
    • Sleep in
    • Breakfast
    • Drive 2 hours and 45 minutes
      • Check in to accomodations
      • Ten Spoon Winery with dinner and live music (wine flights starting at $10)
  • Day 5

WOW!! This itinerary is INCREDIBLE! You are great at what you do!

Everything listed looks perfect! We are really shooting for October/early November time frame, but I see dog sledding and ski lessons still in the plan. Is that only if we choose a different month to visit when there is snow?

Also, love the tipi! Would like to stay in both of the places you listed:) Do you know if the lodge has a hot tub?

We would be leaving from Pensacola Florida. Nearby airports are VPS and Mobile (but would need to factor in how much it costs to pay to park).

Thanks so much for all of your hard work. I can tell already that we will be using your help for trip planning in the future:)

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Thank you! I'm glad you like it! Unfortunately, yes mid December is when ski season and other winter activities begin. But there are plenty of other things I can add to your itinerary. I'll start working on that and look into the flights.  Thanks for sending me the information!

I'll message you back Wednesday evening and let you know what I've found. And I look forward to helping you plan your future trips :)

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Also to answer your question, yes there is a hot tub at the lodge. The $87/night includes the following amenities:

Each condo offers a kitchen, cable TV, indoor heated ski lockers and access to the Sherpa Complex indoor heated pool and both indoor and outdoor hot tubs.

shannon Carter wrote:

Hi Rochelle,

Thanks for the run down! Would it be possible for you to just list a couple of other ideas that we may be able to do if we go in October? I don't want you to get too deatiled, because I will see my husband this evening and I am going to see if his schedule is flexible to where we may be able to go in January or February. Dog Sledding kind of sold me on seeing if our dates can be pushed to early 2018!

Also, we do like the idea of staying at a lodge for part of the trip and having an air bnb by ourselves for the other part.

shannon Carter wrote:

Hi Rochelle,

I spoke with my husband and we are looking to move the trip to mid-late January. We are really wanting to see snow:) I hope this doesn't conflict with research you have already done!

Let me know if you need anything else from us.

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Shannon,

That's great! I really think you will enjoy that time of year much better than October or November. I'll have eveything uploaded by tomorrow evening with flight information and accommodations near the other activities.

Talk to you soon!

Itinerary and Flight Info. By Rochelle Brown

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Shannon,

I hope all is well! I have uploaded your itinerary to the "Itinerary" tab for you to view. Make comments when you get a chance if it is anything you and your husband don't like or want to change! I did some research on flights and the cost is more than I expected. Before the $400 voucher the cheapest flight I found starts at $1350 total for 2 round trip tickets. Note: All flights have 2 layovers.

I can find an AirBnB close to the Fairmont Hot Springs and possibly save you another $200 but this would still put you close to $500 over your $1500 budget and doesn't factor in food or a car rental. With no changes to the itinerary and selecting the cheapest flight option the total cost of this trip would be close to $2,200 (after deducting the $400 flight voucher, but does not factor in food or car rental, and gas). If I find an AirBnb in place of the Fairmont Hot Springs accomodations this would bring it to $2,000 (after deducting $400 flight voucher, but does not factor in food, car rental, and gas.)

I will spend tonight and tomorrow playing around with dates and see if I can find any better prices on Delta Airlines. Also I will research other airlines just to see if you come out cheaper going with another airlines and using the voucher for another trip. Let me know your thoughts. I will message you again tomorrow evening to tell you what I find! :-)

shannon Carter wrote:

Hi Rochelle,

I looked over everything and I think it looks great! I think we are really set on staying at the tipi for 1-2 nights. It looks too cool to miss out on that! We are ok staying at an Air BNB instead of the hot spring resort. Just as long as we can still go to the springs! We would like to stay at the skii resort for a night or two as that seems cheapest when including skiing, lessons, and rentals. If dates in February are any cheaper, we could go anytime that month before March. If we need to increase our budget, do all of these accommodations need to be paid for up front?  Lastly, I'm sure you've heard of the flight site called "skiplagged" but it can be even cheaper than using sites like kayak. Only difference is you have to book one way at a time. If we have to use the flight voucher for another trip, we can do that too.

Thank you for your hard work!

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Shannon!

I used the site you recommended for the return flight (skiplagged) and the total cost for two roundtrip tickets would be $787. You would leave from VPS and fly into BTM and fly out of MSO back to VPS. This cost incorporates the use of your Delta voucher. please see the Transport tab for screenshots of the flight information. I did look for February dates but most airlines only have dates up to February 3 right now. If you decide to purchase these tickets for $787 let me know and I will keep all of the activities in the itinerary but reorganize the itinerary so that you do the activities closest to BTM airport at the beginning of the trip and the activities closest to MSO airport at the end. You will save on gas once I rearrange the itinerary as well and the flight by flying into BTM and out of MSO.

I will look for the Airbnb in place of Fairmont Springs to cut costs. You would still be able to visit the hotsprings by purchasing day passes for $10 each. To answer your question, for AirBnb you have to pay upfront for accomodations. For the Ski Resort I will find out about this in the morning. Please see the cost breakdown I added below and let me know if you have any other questions!

Cost Breakdown: Total $1708 (price excludes Airbnb near Fairmont Springs, car rental, gas, and food)

One night stay Tipi - $99

2 day passes to Fairmont Hot Springs - $20

Flights - $787

Dog Sledding ($135 each) - $270

Horseback Riding ($50 pp) - $100

Vehicle Entry to Lewis and Clark Park - $6

Ski and learn with Rental ($79 pp) - $158

Entry to Glacier National Park - $20

Stay at Whitefish Resort ($89 per night) - $178

Stay in log cabin for 1 night - $70

shannon Carter wrote:

This all looks great! The screenshots of the flight you took say unknown error and I can't see them. I am assuming that I will be the one to call and reserve lodging and flights after you've found it, correct? Would we need to resreve for activities like horse back riding or dog sledding in advance or do that when the time gets near?

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Shannon,

I fixed the screenshots under the Transport tab. Let me know if you still experience issues. Yes you would have to call/go online and make the reservations for flights, accomodations, and activities. For the ski resort I did confirm that you have to pay for the stay upfront when booking. Activities could be booked as it gets closer. This can be done online in advance as well. I would book the flight first, accomodations, then activities. I have added a link to the Stay tab as well for some options for Airbnbs near Fairmont Springs. Let me know if you have any issues accessing anything!

To make it easier for you, I will put all links for booking accomodations and activites in one place. As soon as you decide on the flight let me know so I can begin reorganizing the itinerary. :-)

shannon Carter wrote:

Hi Rochelle,

I am still not able to see the screenshot under transport:/ If it doesnt work after you try it again, I can probably purchase if you tell me what airports to fly in/out of and what the times are. Everything else looks great! Hope to buy these flights by the end of the weekend!

Thanks again!

When you search on Delta.com for the one way on January 9 VPS to BTM the flight # will show as DL7377 for 253.70 per person. DL1157 is the first part of the flight from VPS to Atlanta. Just making sure you get the correct one!

shannon Carter wrote:

Hi Rochelle,

I was just about to book but I realized we would be leaving from VPS at 5am. That is an hour and a half from where we live. We would like to leave out of PNS. I found a flight from PNS January 9th for 181 a person. However, we would be getting in at 11pm. All of the flights leaving from PNS get us in that late. We would not really get to enjoy the tipi! Thoughts on what we should do?

shannon Carter wrote:

I found a flight for $180 (one way per person) leaving out of Mobile Alabama on 1/20. That is an hour away, but at least that flight leaves at 9am. Does that throw all your other plans off if we go that route?

shannon Carter wrote:

Also, we are looking at making this a 6 day trip. I think the best way we can do that while still fitting everything in, is to get rid of one of the hot springs trips. Lolo hot springs doesn't look as nice as fairmont. If we nixed lolo hot springs, would we need to find another accomodation for the fairmont one? Sorry, I think I was getting confused with all the different tabs and discussions, I just now saw the modifications! Sorry for making this more of a headache for you!

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Shannon,

Okay I see. I didn't realize the airport was not close to you. $181 seems like a really great price and with your $400 voucher this portion of the flight would practically be free. However, I agree you would not be able to enjoy the tipi if you arrive that late. What if we add an extra day to the trip to allow time at the tipi? this would mean an additional $99 for the extra night in the tipi, but the money you are saving by taking the cheaper flight would cover this additional cost. The flights with more convenient times are almost double the $181 price. Let me know how you feel about that. If you are okay with this, then I say hurry up and book the flight before the cost increases! Then you could return on 1/16 which would only be around $12 more.

Also, the accomodations near LoLo Springs was chosen mostly because it is close to the winery. I took into consideration that you or your husband would have to drive after leaving the winery and figured closer is better! Even if you decide to skip Fairmont I think the Airbnb close to there is in a good location to get to the other activities like the horseback riding and Lewis and Clark Caverns. I think from your message you want to keep Fairmont and get rid of LoLo springs. Is this correct?

shannon Carter wrote:

Hi Rochelle,

Thanks for finding the return flight! Do you remember the date of return and the price?

Also, good call on the accomodations closest to the winery! From your e mail above, did you mean "if you decide to skip loho (not fairmont) the airbnb is close enough to a good location?" If the accomodations that night are closest to horseback riding and lewis and clark caverns that is ok if we lodge there that night, as long as we can still squeeze in fairmont springs in place of loho.

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Shannon,

The date of return is January 25 and the cost is $375 pp.

Yes I was clarifying if you were removing Lolo, and I wanted to let you know if later you decide that you weren't going to Fairmont, the airbnb near Fairmont is kind-of in the middle of the other activities. Let me know if you have other questions. I will be off of work in 2 hours so I will be able to respond back faster :)

Have a great day!

shannon Carter wrote:

If we leave January 25th and get in january 20th, that wont give us ample time to complete all activities. I will continue searching for flights. For the arrival flight I am looking at flying into BTM correct?

Thanks!

shannon Carter wrote:

On second thought, depending when flights leave, that time frame may give us enough time to do everything. Do you think that's too crammed? Sorry for all of the back and forth!

Rochelle Brown wrote:

No problem! Yes correct, fly into BTM. I searched for January 25 because you said you want to keep the trip at 6 days. Did you mean 6 days including travel to/from Montana?

Yes, I do think it will be a crammed schedule to fit everything into 6 days. If you keep it at 6 days I would suggest not travelling to the Hotsprings and the winery as one option. Or you could keep hotsprings and winery by doing only one day of ski lessons and on day 3 do horseback riding in the morning and end the day at the winery. This would eliminate day 4 and make the trip 6 days with travel included.

Let me know what you decide and I will update the itinerary this evening.

shannon Carter wrote:

I promise I'm not usually this difficult lol!

We'll go back to a total of 7 days that way we can incorporate everything with ease. If that helps, moving forward with flights. It will need to be a flight that leaves after 8am (as we will have to drop our dog off as well) especially if it is an hour plus away. We can fly to/from Mobile AL or Pensacola FL

Thank you!

I haven't checked December because that wasn't in the time frame you mentioned initially, but I will check dates during that month as well. This seems like the best order to complete everything since it involves the least amount of driving time possible. I hope you like it! Planning it definitely has me excited to visit Montana one day. I actually never knew they had so much to offer as far as activities. Anyways please view your itinerary under the "Itinerary tab" and let me know if anything else needs to be adjusted. Once you approve I will go back and add maps to show the exact distance between each place. I will also begin researching rental car prices for you.

Talk to you soon,

Rochelle

Hi Rochelle,

The trip looks like so much fun and I can't wait to go and thank you enough for organizing it all! I hope our itinerary you made can come in handy for you one day too!

I do have a few questions, I think I'm misunderstanding:

1. Where do we stay nights 2,3,and 5?

2. If we stay at the fairmont hot springs on night one, would it still be 1.5 hrs to the dog sledding on day 2?

3. I think I am confused as to where we are staying/checkin in on night 4. You said

  • Checkout of your accomodations and begin your day early around 6:30 a.m. and take a 4 hour drive to Whitefish Ski Resort.
  •

Check into your second accomodations"

4. Did the ski lessons include 2 day ski lessons or just one? If only one, that's ok, just want to make sure I'm understanding it all!

Thanks Rochelle:)

Hi Shannon,

I'm glad you like it! For responses to your questions, see below:

1. See the information under the "Stay" tab.

2. Yes it would stil lbe 1.5 hours

3. I tried to clarify under the "Stay" tab. sorry for the confusion

4. The ski lessons can be 1 or 2-day lessons. I only added it for one day so you would still have time to visit the park and horseback riding with having to rush through any activities. Let me know if this is okay.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Shannon,

Sorry for the delay. The first time I searched for car rentals I didn't like the prices which were starting at $500 for a compact car. I kept searching and today I found that Budget Rental is the cheapest for your travel dates, starting at $308 for a compact and up to $449 for a standard elite SUV. The complete details and link are under the Transport Tab.

Car Rental:

Pickup from BTM on 1/20/18 at 7 p.m. or later - Return to MSO on 1/26/18 at 5:30 a.m. (Note: In case you don't already know, if you have full coverage on your personal vehicle call your car insurance company as most will cover a rental. this will save you some money for your trip versus purchasing additional insurance.)

Economy or Compact $308.69 total

Intermediate or Standard $323.99

Full size $332.99

Premium $359.99

Intermediate SUV, Standard SUV, or Luxury $404.99

Standard Elite suv $449.99

Minivan $629.99

Book through Budget.com If you select the "Book direct" promotion and pay in advance these are the cheapest prices. I compared to hotwire, expedia, priceline, hertz, and enterprise. The other sites were starting at $500 for a compact car.

The best travel ninja out there!

When I discovered planmy.travel, I was skeptical and I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I thought, what the heck, it's $20.

When I received my itinerary for a trip to Montana, from Rochelle... I was blown away. There is clearly so much detail and time that goes into her planning. She mapped everything down from our budget, the flight, drive time, to a car rental company. She searches to find the best bang for your buck and is very patient when adjustments need to b made. I will 100% be using Rochelle and her travel expertise for more trips in the future.
