Plan your trip

Spring Break 2017

Trip details:

There will be 6 of us.  Two adults and 4 teenagers. (1 adult (mom) & 2 teens (ages 14 & 17) (ages 14 & 16) per room with double beds).  We want to take a trip over Spring Break. We could leave afternoon/evening of April 7th and return April 15th or 16th, depends on pricing, availability, etc.

Teens want action, they want to see Grand Canyon to say they've been there, but don't want to spend all day hiking it or riding a mule. (helicopter tour down and get out for photo).  They want to see the big trees, etc but not spend all day walikng thru woods.  The more places/things we can do the better.

Cannot afford Luxury rooms, but we do want clean nice rooms (Sheraton, Marriott, Hyatt, etc.) of if there's local hotel versus a chain that similar.  If hotel has rooms with mini frig/microwave or breakfast included would be a plus.  We have 1 person that's Vegan.

We would like to leave out of Fort Lauderdale, FL and fly to Las Vegas, NV.  Spend a day or two there(see a couple of shows – maybe magic or America’s Got Talent show), Since time is an issue, is it possible to take helicopter ride down to Grand Canyon and then back to Vegas?  We could then rent a 7 passenger vehicle - don't want to be squished - plus need luggage space (Escalade, mini-van or Surburban for rest of road trip?

We then want to visit Yosemite National Park (is there place to stay locally there 1 night?)  and San Francisco (fisherman's wharf, trolley car, China town, visit CA Academy of Sciences, any other ideas?).

Maybe venture down to Henry Cowell Redwoods State park? or Santa Cruz (boardwalk, ride roller coaster)

 Fly back from San Francisco?

What do you think?  Do you have other suggestions for teens?

I have AAA membership if that helps with any discounts

Day 4 (April 10):

Spend the day exploring Yosemite Park:

1. Valley View

It can be difficult to truly grasp the raw natural power which forms the backbone of Yosemite. From the viewpoint at Valley View, visitors can take in Yosemite Valley in its entirety. Clearly visible are the original lines formed by the glacier which carved out the valley. For best viewing, visit in the early morning before crowds start to form.

Valley View Yosemite National Park

2. Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls is the highest waterfall anywhere in North America. At a dizzying height of 2,425 feet, the waterfall offers stunning viewed both from Yosemite Valley below, and from the waterfall’s head above. The best time to view the waterfall is in early spring, when the snow melt causes the falls to swell, and the wildflowers below are in bloom.

Hi Linnette! I would be glad to help you plan your trip. With everything you would like to do, this will be a very fast-paced trip but it is doable. I do recommend atleast 2 nights at Yosemite since it is about an 8 hour drive from Vegas and there is so much to see there. Also, just to let you know the Grand Canyon helicopter tours with landing start at $350 to $600 per person. Let me know if this is okay and I will research the most affordable companies for you with great reviews.

I will start a first draft of your itinerary with my suggestions and then we can go from there. Please give me 3 days (by Thursday evening) to get back to you. If you have any questions between now and then, feel free to message me. Talk to you soon!

Hotel suggestions By Linnette Mongeotti

Any hotel suggestions at park?  or once in San Fransciso?

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Linnette! I will research some hotels for you at Yosemite and in San Francisco. What is your price range per night in San Francisco?

Linnette Mongeotti wrote:

Not sure what the going rate would be for decent non-smoking hotel similar to Marriott/Sheraton as far as cleanliness/safety, etc?  Prefer under 150 if possible, could be surrounding area if not too far traffic wise based on where we'd be touring.  Any recommendations?

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi,

I've added the two cheapest hotels that fit what you are looking for and are 12 miles or less to the city center of San Francisco. San Francisco is a bit pricey so it was hard to find hotels under $150. I did find some a little more expensive.  Check under the "Stay" tab and let me know what you think. I will send you some options for Yosemite in the morning.

Have you ever heard of/considered using Airbnb for your accommodations?

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Good morning Linnette,

I have added some options for Yosemite under the "Stay" tab. The best deal seems to be the cabin option with your AAA discount. I also added return flight information for the cheapest return flight from San Francisico that I could find. I listed this under your last day of travel. Please let me know your thoughts! I think you will really like the hotel I listed for Vegas. I stay there most of the time when I visit Vegas to save money because it is a really nice place, very clean, and close to the strip. Let me know if I can help you with anything else. Next week I will have much more free time and will be able to respond to you much faster. Thank you for your patience!

Hello,

I just wanted to check with you to see if you had any other questions for your trip. If not, let your friend know you have 10 more days of consulting for you trip. :-)

Talk to you soon,

Rochelle

Linnette Mongeotti wrote:

Unfortunately, Denese has been busy and hasn't had time to review.  We did text briefly, and I asked her opinion of using airnb versus a hotel in San Fransciso.  If we get a house, we could pool the money to cover the costs.  She doesn't want us stuck in a dive in San Fransciso and realizes we may have to pay a little more there.  Do you have any recommendations? What's a nicer hotel going to be that closer to what we're doing?  verus an Airnb?

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Sure, please give me until tomorrow to get back to you. I am on travel for the holidays and have limited access to my computer. I will send you recommendations very soon.

Thanks.

Rochelle Brown wrote:

Hi Linnette. Merry Christmas!

I apologize for the delay. I found 2 hotels that are not the most expensive in San Francisco but still pricier than the $150 budget. One is The Zephyr for $278 per night per room. This is found on hotels.com and cheaper than booking through the hotel's site with AAA. The second is The Tuscan which is $248 per room per nighta nd cheaper booking through hotels.com as well than using AAA through the hotel's site. I added the information regarding each hotel's amenities and links for booking under the "Stay" tab. Both are in very great locations and close to most of the sites per your request.

One place I forgot to mention visiting during your stay is Lombard Street, referred to as the crooked street. This is a cool place to visit as well for children or teenagers. You can walk up the street or another fun option is to attempt driving down. Let me know if you would like me to add this to your itinerary. I added a link to a Youtube video to give you an idea.

I know there are only 3 days left of consulting and to ensure you get the most of your consultation I want to provide you with my email address in case you have additional questions after the time period. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about your trip at rochellebrown2003@gmail.com

Thank you,

Rochelle
