Trip details:

I will start from Ahmedabad. I want to visit dholavira, bhuj, the great rann, mandvi and little rann if possible. I will book my flight tickets from Delhi depending upon the availability of the accomodation. So I would want to freeze everything asap. Thank you.

16 December 2013 - Bhuj:

Assuming will you get into Bhuj by 12pm. Post lunch, you can visit Aina Mahal, Chattardi along with Hamirsar Lake and Prag Mahal Palace. If you have enough time after this, you can also cover the Rudramata temple complex and Darbar Gadh. This pretty much sums up the must-see experiences in Bhuj.

Gandhidham is about 2 hours from Bhuj and is a convenient point for your visit to Dholavira and Little Rann.

17 December 2013 - Dholavira:

Dholavira, an important Indus Valley site, is a 4 hour drive from Gandhidham. I would suggest you leave at 6 AM, so that you get to Dholavira by 10. Please make sure you carry enough water and food for the day. There is only one place called Toran guest house in Dholavira but I would genuinely recommend not eating there. It is not one of the most hygienic places. There are quite a few villages on the way to Dholavira and you can also explore them. Rapar is one such village. Nothing extremely fancy; but a good glimpse of local life.

Archaeology Survey of India (its actually the excavation team) have their office there and you can check with them regarding a guide to show you around the site. Pretty confident there are guides.

Make sure you have your camera ready, because the route is insanely beautiful.

After spending the day at Dholavira, head back to Gandhidham.

18 December 2013 - Dhordo:

Head to the beautiful town of Nakhtrana from Gandhidham today. It is approximately a 2.30 hour drive. You can set base in Nakhtrana for 2-3 days and visit the Great Rann, Dhordo, Kala Dungar, etc.

If you get into Nakhtrana by 10 AM, recharge your batteries and head out to Dhordo, where the Rann of Kutch festival is happening. The festival is from 14th December - 18th March. Journey from Nakhtrana to Dhordo will be about an hour and a half. Spend some time in Dhordo and then head to the White desert in Great Rann of Kutch.

Drive to Kala Dunger to catch the best view of the sunset and the white desert.

Head back to Nakhtrana.

19 December 2013 - Lakhpat Fort, Narayan Sarovar, Mandvi:

Take a trip to Lakhpat Fort and Narayan Sarovar today.

Lakhpat fort is approximately 1.30 hours from Nakhtrana. Once a thriving port, the village of Lakhpat is now deserted with hardly a population of few thousands in the fortified walls. Places to see are Lakhpat Fort, the Gurudwara where Guru Nanak is believed to have stayed on his return from Mecca, Ghaus Mohammed no Kubo & Sayyed Pir no Kubo.

Around mid-day, head to Narayan Sarovar, which is approximately 40 minutes from Lakhpat. Narayan Sarovar is an important pilgrimage site for hindus and has temples and a lake that is said to have water from the river Saraswati.

In the latter half of the day you can head  to Mandvi, which is another 3 hour drive from there. But if you are too tired, then you can head directly to Mandvi beach. Some places you can visit are Sundarwar temple, Jama Masjid, Lakshminarayan Temple, Kajivali Mosque, Rameshwar Temple among a few. From there, you can head to Devpur.

Hey, I've update a plan under the Itinerary tab. Let me know what you think.

Getting around:

Since the two of you are travelling alone, I'd recommend you book with tour operators. Some agents I can recommend for transport are S.K Tours - 91-2832-654495/ 91 98258 31085/ 91 96622 51424, A to Z Travels - 9925633215. If these guys don't give you a good rate, you can call Mr JP from JP Resorts, Nakhtrana on 91 94280 80097 and check with him if he can help you only with the transport. He does transport at a reasonable rate, which is why I am giving you his number. Hope this helps.
