Singapore, yet another vibrant experience.......
I just got back from a Diwali holiday in Singapore. It was my 4th visit to this most amazing island country. My previous visits were either solo or with just 2-3 travelers, but this time I went with my entire family of 10 members. We had infants to old age people in our group, which was the most challenging part. Like always, the planning and execution was left to me for the entire group. We stayed in hotels on my previous visits, but this time we wanted to do it different. Something like a home-stay, this not only was economical but also was full of experiences of local lifestyle.
We somehow figured out an awesome homestay in Kembangan, Singapore. A small villa, which is 2 storey and has 5 bedrooms, living room, dining area, kitchen, gym on the rooftop etc.. With 8 days in hand, I had to plan keeping in mind the age group and food coz vegetarian options are not that easy to look for especially after being outdoor the whole day.
One great help we received is from Maxi cabs. Now for 10 to commute around Singapore is difficult, especially in holiday season. 3-4 taxis are very hard to find at one go. Hence maxi cab was our savior. They have service of pick and drop from point A to point B, it could be anywhere, in a mini van (van fits in 10 people) and would charge flat SGD 65$. All we have to do is call and wait for 15 minutes for the van to arrive. Mini Van was a blessing in disguise in the scorching heat.
Singapore is a small beautiful island country and if planned well, we could have a look at all their attractions in just 8 days and that's what we did.
These are the attractions we did and also they are a must on your trip to Singapore. Each of them have their own captivating moments…
- Sentosa – A day is less here. Do not miss the Song of the Sea show which is only in the evenings.
- Universal Studio – Need to say more? It closes at 7, so make sure you finish all your attractions by then. Do not miss the Transformer 4d show.
- Jurong Bird park – Do not miss the High flyer bird show
- Night Safari – Experience wild animals up-close
- Singapore Zoo – It’s amazing to see animals so closely. Do not miss the White tiger trail.
- Adventure cove – In love with water parks? Then do not miss this.
- Singapore Flyer – As good as the London Eye. Do the flyer at night. Singapore is more beautiful with lights on it.
Shopping in Singapore is also like an experience. Do visit Orchard road for the best of the malls and brands. From ION Orchard to Takashimaya. Vivo city mall at sentosa was all set to welcome Christmas with the beautiful decor and discounts.
For the Indian touch, visit Little India. It is all decorated with lights welcoming Diwali.
For the IKEA lovers do visit IKEA at beedok. Adjoining to IKEA we have Giant (for anything and everything) and Courts (gadget mall).
Every city has a vibrant night life and in Singapore you need to head to Clark Quay for the best pubs and eateries.
Finally don’t forget to spend some good time at the Changi Airport. With 3 terminals and a sky train to move around, is an experience if it’s your 1st trip there. Plenty of shops to shop from, theaters to watch the lasted movies, butterfly garden, gaming zones, plenty to cafes, restaurants and much more.
Awaiting my next visit to this remarkable country....should be in Christmas of 2014.
