Best Maldives Resorts for Every Type of Traveler
Almost every resort in Maldives will give you a superb beach and turquoise waters overlooked by swaying palms. But accommodations vary from budget haunts to average resorts to ultra-luxury hideaways. And since you'll be spending most of your time in and around the hotel you choose, choosing the right hotel is absolutely key to the perfect Maldives experience.
Each resort caters to a different audience - honeymoon couples, surfers, families with kids, divers - so I've picked the best one in each category. But let's face it, Maldives is not a cheap destination, so I've picked these resorts based on the quality of experience, while keeping in mind the price it is offered at.
When to go: Hotel prices are lower (sometimes almost half) from May-Jul and Sep-Nov. Weather is fine year-round, but there are somewhat higher chances of rain from May-Nov. Also consider flight prices as they vary significantly through the year, especially rising during Apr-May because of summer holidays in India.
Best Maldives Resort for Honeymoon Couples: Cocoa Island

Best for a Desert Island experience: Makunudu Island Resort

Best Maldives Resort for Style & Luxury: One & Only Reethi Rah

Best Maldives Resort for Over-water Villas: W Retreat & Spa

Best Maldives Resort for Families with Kids: Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma

Best Maldives Resort for Divers: Chaaya Reef Ellaidhoo

Best Maldives Resort for Budget Travellers: Helengeli Island Resort
Prices from $100 (though they shoot up significantly during high season)
Also note that roundtrip seaplane transfers from Male airport to Helengeli cost USD 295 per person
For budget travellers, also check out Gangehi Island Resort, a normally upscale resort with some special offers running often, giving a surprisingly great deal.
