Plan your trip

How does PlanMy.Travel work?

Simple: Find a Travel Ninja based on your destination and interests, and hire him/her to help you with your trip planning. We then create a trip for you (just like this one) where you can get unlimited help from them to customize your itinerary exactly as you want.

Think of it like having a well-traveled friend who's been there, done that, and loves helping you discover amazing travel experiences.

How much does it cost?

The Travel Ninja's fee starts from as low as US$5. The exact price depends on your trip duration and the Travel Ninja you choose.

What will I get?

You get unlimited consulting with the Travel Ninja for one trip, over a period of 30 days. We will create a trip page for you where you can get all the help you need from the Travel Ninja.

All communication on the trip page must be about one specific trip. Any questions, however trivial, about other trips must necessarily be posted through other channels (e.g. new paid trip or free trial questions).

We define one "trip" generally as a journey that starts and ends in one city, without coming back to the same city more than once. We can make exceptions to this in some cases (e.g. you're on a business trip to Boston and want to plan 4 weekends out of the city). However, in such cases, we will need to be told upfront how many shorter trips will need to be planned - any additional shorter trip (that you might think of later) will need to be paid for separately.

When should I use PlanMy.Travel?

Whenever you're planning a holiday. When you work with a Travel Ninja, they help you make the most of your trip. What's more, they save you time, money and stress.

Ideally, you should hire a Travel Ninja about 3-4 weeks before a planned vacation. Longer if you have complicated requirements.

Our pricing model allows you to make the most of this service for trips of any duration, from a short weekend break to a mega-odyssey of a lifetime.

Who are the Travel Ninjas?

The Travel Ninjas are destination experts, carefully selected by us from among popular travel bloggers, guidebook authors, travel journalists, conservationists, professional travel planners, etc. But above all, they are enthusiastic travelers who love helping you have great trips.

Are the Travel Ninjas travel agents?

Not in general. Though some of them may be travel agents and will disclose any affiliations on their profile page.

Do the Travel Ninjas earn commissions from what they recommend?

No. The Travel Ninjas are not travel agents or affiliate marketers . They don't earn commissions from the recommendations they make. So all you get is honest, unbiased and well-researched advice.

Those who do happen to have professional affiliations will disclose it upfront.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

You bet! If you're not happy, we're not happy. Just tell us why (within 3 weeks after you pay) and we'll refund your payment. No more questions asked.

The only exception is if you choose to communicate with the Travel Ninja outside our platform (e.g. phone/email/skype).

For how long can I use the service after paying?

A trip consulting session will last for 30 days from the date it is assigned to a particular Travel Ninja. In exceptional cases, when a Travel Ninja has frequently been unable to respond promptly (i.e. within 48 hours) to questions, we will add up to an additional 30 days to the timeline after the mutual consent of both parties.

I'm kind of in a hurry - I'm leaving in 4 days and I need a plan. What should I do?

Hmm, that's a tricky one. To have the best experience of our service, we recommend that you hire a Travel Ninja at least 2 weeks before your departure (longer for complex trips). It takes that much time to carefully customize a trip to your exact needs.

If you're already within 2 weeks of your planned departure, then write in to us at, and we'll help you figure out the best course of action.

But I love planning my trips. Why would I outsource that?

We know! Trip planning is a lot of fun and you don't have to outsource it. This is just a way to make it even more fun by having a knowledgeable expert to help you.

Can I have a phone/skype/IM/email conversation with the Travel Ninja?

Sure. You can check with your Travel Ninja about that.

Do note that if any communication happens outside our platform, it voids our money-back guarantee.

Will the Travel Ninja do my bookings?

In general, no. But they will suggest the best websites/agencies to do it. Some Travel Ninjas who are also travel industry professionals may be able to assist you with your bookings. You can check with them.

Will the Travel Ninja help me with logistical stuff (like finding cheap flights, hotel deals, etc)?

Sometimes, but don't expect much on that front. The Travel Ninjas are primarily destination experts. Their main job is to help you plan an awesome itinerary, choose the right things to do, places to stay, places to eat, and give you insider tips on your destination.

The simplest way to understand what to expect is to think of the Travel Ninja as a travel advisor and/or researcher and NOT a travel agent or travel secretary.

What about visas?

Again, they may be able to help a little bit and offer some guidance from their experience. But it's not something they're expected to have expertise in.

What about my privacy - I see that many of the trips planned are publicly visible?

That's up to you. You can set the privacy of any of your trips to hide the trip details from public visibility. Even your name can be hidden, if you want.

How can I become a Travel Ninja?

If you think you'd make an awesome Travel Ninja and would like to join our panel, start by reading through our FAQ for Travel Ninjas to learn more about the program (go read it, seriously - it's not a boring "terms and conditions" document). Stuff we generally look for:

- You're obviously mad about travel (you have a popular travel blog, or you constantly tweet about travel, or you've authored a guidebook, or you've contributed travel articles to newspapers and magazines, etc.)

- You're a travel industry professional or have some other experience in planning trips for others (professional experience preferred)

- You love helping others with their travel related queries (you're a top contributor on TripAdvisor or other travel forums)

- You're willing to invest your time and effort in building a strong profile (by earning 5-star reviews from delivering a great experience to every user).

- You're willing to do this professionally, which means being responsive to user contacts, being prompt and well-organized with trip planning, and going the extra mile to please your customers.

Note: if your job or other commitments generally keep you extremely busy then this is not for you. Being a Travel Ninja is only for those who can give it time whenever a customer hires them.
